Is My Website Successful?

Different Ways to Rate Your Websites Success

You may be wondering “Is my website Successful?” Many people say the money is in the list but is that the only factor? Here are some different ways to rate your websites success.

A list is one way to determine the profitability of your site. If you have a growing list then the opt in page is doing its job. If you send out emails and make some sales then your list and site are working.

However there are some other things to look for, mainly the flow of your traffic through the site. You want to know how they are coming in and where they go after they arrive. This is especially important if you are using Adsense to monetize.

Every few days you should check your sites traffic stats. The one I use, which is included with my Site Build It site, tells me what pages are getting the most incoming traffic, what keywords they are using to find me and also lists the pages visited in by traffic count to that page.

This information is vital to optimize the site for monetization because not I know where to put the best performing ads and what types of pages my visitor is most likely to click to. Basically, it is giving me the characteristics of my reader and what they are looking for. Now I can focus on those keywords and build more relevant content for them to find.

At that point I also make sure they can find it from the pages most visited. So I usually add a link to the new content on all the higher visited pages. Of course the goal is to get them to click to as many pages as possible. During the roaming stages you want them to either subscribe, click on an ad or two and, best case scenario, purchase something right then and there.

The final option is that they will at the least bookmark your site and come back. One of the factors to consider in evaluating the success of your website is the repeat visitors and pages clicked. I have found that, regardless of my list size, my repeat visitor count is pretty even to that of unique. So whether they subscribed or not they have found some value in the site and are coming back.

At that point the task is to keep them coming back and hope they share your site with others. Offer social buttons, rss feeds and tell a friend opportunities, the more options the better. Personally I rarely subscribe to a sight anymore; I’ve got enough free, outdated eBooks. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t visit the good sites on a regular basis and see what they are doing and talking about.

Remember, it’s not just the list size that determines your websites success. Find where they are coming from, what they are looking for and keep them engaged with good content.

To Your Continued Success, Tim Mershon
