There are a lot of articles out there that talk about the path to success. Many of them are just reruns of the same information, however, that does not mean they are not worth repeating.

Here is a list of the “predictors”.

Passion is the first attribute to for many reasons. Passion is the emotional drive that moves you towards your goal. As defined passion is “intense emotional excitement” it is a drive that goes beyond just simple enthusiasm. An example of passion would the case of Bill Gates. (Frankly Bill Gates is an example for every predictor. Come on the guys worth 60 billion). When he first started out his passion was to put a computer on every desk in every house in the world. His passion paid off.

Determination is the second predictor. The reason it is important is because it is so easy to be lured off focus on the journey to our goal. I have written in these pages on several occasions how easy it is to lose focus. This happens when we allow ourselves to respond to events in our lives that throw us off course. What happens is these events become excuses for a task unaccomplished. To fight this we must establish priorities in our goal and stay on track no matter what. If success were easy then everyone would already be there. Stay the course to your goal.

The third quality is Talent and it is the kindling for our passion. Finding your talent is sometimes a daunting task. It is easy to think of things that we would enjoy doing more than our work, anything is better than punching a clock, right? The real key here is to find those things that you love to do whether your getting paid or not and then turn it into a opportunity. Something to keep in mind though, many times our first “calling” may not really be our talent. We have already been subjected to what is expected. You know where you say you want to be an artist and everyone says that is foolish because you’ll never make any money at it. Do not let the naysayer’s control your talent. Bottom line, Do what YOU love.

Self discipline is the next contributor. Actually, this may be the biggest reason people do NOT achieve their goal, because of a lack of discipline. None of these other qualities mean anything if you do nothing with them, self discipline is the foundation of all the other predictors. Simply put, Knowing means nothing, Action produces results. (I believe that falls in with my formula; Knowledge + Action = Success.

Finally we have Faith. Faith is an often misunderstood trait. We like to say we have faith in many things, however, when it comes to ourselves we usually miss the mark. Everyone who has achieved success had to make that leap of faith at some point or another. Even when everything is falling into place, you to will have to make that final jump. Why? Because to move forward you will have to make to choice to abandon something else that is safe for you. Whether it be to leave the job for your own business or even just changing jobs, it will require you to have faith in your abilities.

Take some time to access where you are in relation to these “Predictors”. Sometimes we are on track with many of them but there is one step left to take us to the next level. Discover it and make the decision to move forward.

Let nothing stand in your way on your journey.

Success is a choice, you need only decide.

To your success, Tim Mershon
